Effect of Ozempic:
Ozempic contains the active ingredient semaglutide, a GLP-1 receptor agonist. GLP-1 is an endogenous hormone that is released after food intake and regulates metabolism. Semaglutide binds to GLP-1 receptors in the pancreas and stimulates insulin secretion when blood sugar is elevated. At the same time, it inhibits glucagon release, which causes the liver to produce less sugar. In addition, it delays gastric emptying, which flattens blood sugar spikes after meals, and activates areas in the brain that increase satiety, which can lead to reduced food intake. Clinically, this leads to a reduction in long-term blood sugar (HbA1c), weight loss and an improvement in cardiometabolic health. Common side effects include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, or constipation; less commonly, pancreatitis can occur.
